6:00 in the morning my alarm goes off, and I roll out of bed around 6:15 AM.
Before I do anything, I get my things together for the day; however the first thing I look at is my day planner, “Chemistry Test : Stoichiometry”.
Oh my god I’m so not ready for this test…
I look at myself in the mirror and grab some make up to make myself look pale and groggy. Clear my throat up a little and try to put on a raspy voice. As I walk down the stairs, I quickly dab some water on my face to make it seem clammy.
“Mooooom, I’m not feeling well…but I have this big test today in Chemistry that I have to take! So, I guess I’ll just go upstairs and get some clothes on to go to school...Ohhhh…my stomach…my head!” I moan.
“Honey, you’re really not looking well, why don’t you just sleep a little more and see if you feel better after some more sleep.” My mom says back to my excruciating face.
So I sleep for another hour, and school starts in 20 minutes. When my mom tries to wake me, I snore at her face and she leaves me be. When I wake up around 9 in the morning, I go downstairs to make a great big breakfast for myself when I see a little note waiting for me when I enter the kitchen: Kiyomi, I went to work and neither Richard or I will be back til around 7pm, I left $20 if you want to buy some porridge from the Chinese restaurant. Feel better baby! Love, Mommy.
My own theme music comes on in my head and I do a little happy dance while preparing my breakfast; Including: Two eggs, bacon, English muffins, strawberries, bananas, and a big glass of
As I sit on my bed and ponder what I could possibly do with my full day, I come to the brilliant idea of calling my best friend who had Basic Art for her 2nd period.
“ Hello? Kiyomi? What the hell I’m in class!” she whispers into the phone.
“Put on a sick face and lets gooooooo! Meet me at the El Cerrito Bart Station, hurry up!” I tell her.
30 minutes pass by and I’m at the Bart Station, as I see Nina walking towards me with a very upset face on, I quickly get through the gate and head up to the platform. Nina and I take bart to another Train Station, where we get a ticket to go to
“We won’t have time to do ANYTHING in Tahoe, Kiyomi.” Nina argues with me while we wait for our train.
“Oh my goodness Nina, my parents aren’t coming home til 7, it’s 10:38 right now. The train ride will take about 2 hours, we can spend a couple hours in
“Why is today so special? Why do we have to do this today, you’re sick other times also.”
“I don’t know, I feel invincible today…” I say back, then our train pulls up.
We dance to music through the speakers on my phone with a couple people we meet going to the same place, they tell us that their house is a block from Truckee and we could hang out there for a while and get some lunch.
When we exit the train station, there are a big group of kids who are holding up signs and blasting Justice through a boom box. The sign says “WELCOME BACK HOME KARLY AND BRANDON! (and in small letters that seemed to be squeezed in) & New friends Kiyomi and Nina!” Everyone starts to laugh and take pictures of us coming towards them as we’re taking pictures of them and the signs.
We all go back to the house that is blasting music and teenagers are everywhere. The kids we met were coming home from staying in Santa Barbera for a year and their friends were having a welcome back home party for them. Karly must of texted them to say that they met us on board, and they added our names! It was a great lunch and party.
“Kiyomi, it’s 3…we should get going…” Nina says in a nervous tone.
“WE JUST GOT HERE!!! That’s so unfair…” I whine back.
As we get back on board the train, all our new friends wave at us while it exits the station back home to
Nina and I walk around the plaza for a bit, wondering what to do with our 2 hours left of freedom; when she comes up with the brilliant idea of going to the Iron Works in Berkeley to go Rock Climbing. As we go up to the top of the biggest climb, we sit and chill for a while, wondering what NEXT to do!
Since we were in
We buy Kites from longs, mine was a colorful butterfly type, and hers a box type kite with ribbons flying around it. The guys we were with buy their own kites and we head to the

Once they’re done, Jack, the other guy, sprints back to the car with John and steps on the gas to get me home before she figures out they’re driving the same direction.
They park little less than half a block away and let me out, I secretly run over to my house trying not to be spotted by my nosy neighbors, when I see that the cleaning lady is in the kitchen, right where the stairs are to get to my bedroom. I run around the back side as my mom’s car pulls up, and I open the emergency door to the garage. Before my mom goes into the same area, I run up the stairs, just missing the kitchen to my bedroom.
My day was very productive, and when I have more time…I’ll do it all over again. :]
